10 reasons to come to Lorella Springs

So many reasons to come, and only 10 reasons we can place on this page? Read on for now... but if you return.... expect this page to perhaps have been renamed to the MANY MANY reasons to come to Lorealla Springs

(1) Our Springs... are HOT!
There are many springs on the Savannah Way... including the well known Butterfly Springs just down the road from Lorella Springs.  The only problem is – they are cold springs.  From May to September, you’d not want to swim in them as they are way below a comfortable swimming temperature.

In fact... the water temperature in Butterfly Springs is generally several degrees below the temperature in our swimming holes, such as at Emerald Pools, The WaterSlide, and Indiana Falls.

The two main springs on Lorella Springs are the secret springs which are right in the main campground and Nudie hot Springs.  Secret Springs, is usually around 35C, nudie Hot Springs is even hotter at 42-45 degrees.

(2) Our Springs contain clean, clear water.
Many of the hot springs in the NT contain no fish.  Also, they sting your eyes if you open them under water.  Why is this?  Sulphur and other minerals leech into these hot springs, as well as nutrients that cause algal blooms.

The result is all the oxygen is leached from the water, and thus no fish can survive in them.  It’s that mineral content that stings your eyes as well.

The springs at Lorella Springs are all teaming with many different types of native fish and the water is soft and pure.  You’ll get all the soothing, healing benefits of a natural spring, without the yuck smell, and the layer of salt on your body when you exit them!

(3) There is something for everyone
Looking for adventure?
Then you’ve come to the right place!  We’ve got extreme 4wding, remote camping and fishing, bird watching, hot water springs, crystal clear cool water swimming holes, croc spotting.... Plenty of places to throw in a crab pot.

Not looking for adventure?  Then you’ve come to the right place!  Many people simply plop themselves in the secret springs, and spend their holiday soaking.  There is easy fishing near the main campsite and the Red and Blue Claw Yabbie fishing is first rate.

(4)Hot Showers, and Flush Toilets.
We understand that when travelling in remote areas, sometimes it’s nice to be able to have a luxurious, hot shower.  Some of our visitors come just for that reason, and then end up staying longer after discovering Lorella

Our showers are pure, soft water.  Your soap will lather, there will be no salt water taste in your mouth, and you’ll not just feel clean, you will feel reborn.

Now pit toilets are fine, and we have some in our remote campgrounds, but in the main campgrounds expect you can get your business done without the flies and the smell of a pit or composting toilet.

(5) We have a bush bar, and provide a feed too.
Most campers bring their own food and grog with them, but there is something nice about sitting around in a bush bar getting some service.  After a long day of fun or driving, having someone else bring you a beer and a feed can be almost as relaxing as sitting in our hot springs.

(6) We have a sense of community
Every afternoon we have happy hour, and the majority of campers come up to talk about their day.  What bushwalking they did, what animals they saw, what fish or yabbies they caught.
There are many campgrounds along the Savannah Way, but we pride ourselves on facilitating a place where you can share the stories of your travels, get advice on other good places to visit.  Our community shares a true sense of community you’ll not find elsewhere

(7) More Butterflies than Butterfly Springs
There are literally thousands of Monarch Butterflies that are regularly camped along one of our more popular bush walks, the Bower Bird Walk.  Yes, there are Bower Birds along this bushwalk... but we are considering renaming it Butterfly bushwalk as our walker often see many thousands of these butterflies congregating in a single tree... exploding into the air if disturbed.

(8) Pure water, on tap
We know how important fresh water is when travelling in the Northern Territory.  Bore water is not much good to drink, and many of the towns have desalinated water only.  You can drink it... but boy... is it yuck.  You feel like you need another drink to wash the taste out of your mouth.

Fill your water containers and water tanks at Lorella Springs, knowing you are getting some of the freshest, purest water around.  You can hook up your caravan hoses direct to our taps.

(9) The best Fishing in the Territory – or Australia for that Matter
We’ve got the best River and Coastal Fishing You’ll find in Australia.
It's a simply law of averages.  We are remote, and even after arriving at Lorella, it’s still another 80Klms to travel to our coastal fishing camps.  It’s MUCH easier to go fishing at places such as Borroloola.  So many thousands do, and you will need to cue up to use boat ramps and then fish for a position on the river, or to enter/exit the river mouth.

At Lorella Springs, our remoteness means the numbers that come here are small.  These small numbers mean our fish stocks are huge.  We have some people who come several times a year, from thousands of klms away, just fish at the coastal fishing camp.
So when we say “you can fish” at Lorella Springs.... we in fact mean.”If you are serious about fishing?  Come to Lorella Springs.
Whether its Billabong fishing, river fishing, estuary, beach or open ocean fishing, it’s all here at Lorella Springs, and it’s the best in the Northern Territory and Australia.

(10) Gas barbies, a camp kitchen, fuel... and an emergency rescue service.
We are a remote campground, but we understand that remote does not mean you are on your own.  You can of course use your own facilities, but provide gas barbies in several places around the main campsite, and a camp kitchen you can use to wash your dishes.

We’ve got fuel – it’s not the cheapest you’ll find – but we sell it at cost, to us, to ensure that our visitors never run of fuel whilst on Lorella.
There are many tracks to drive on and places to visit at Lorella Springs.  Some of them are more difficult than others to navigate.... and yes, you’ll have that adventurous feeling when you drive to some of the more remote parts.  But rest assured - you are not on your own.  If you get into trouble, you can contact us at the main campground for vehicle recovery assistance.... and if we don’t hear from you when you are supposed to have returned?  Expect we will mount a search and rescue mission.
