NEWSLETTER UPDATE 23rd November 2011
Well, another season is finished, and the wet is well and truly here now.
What a beautiful year we have had. Due to last season being such a large wet,
all of the water ways, waterfalls and swimming destinations ran well into
the end of the season. Every year Lorella Springs Wilderness Park has more
and more to offer as we discover and establish and open new things.
Flying Fox swamp was great this year, as this season we selected some remote areas of Lorella, allowing people private bush camping. For bird watcher and nature lovers, this was great as we have added the canoe on the lagoon for people to borrow. This year we had our colony of about 1 million little red flying foxes back again (hence the name).
We have more and more tracks through and around Lorella Like veins leading you deeper and further in to some of the most remote places on Earth.
Don’t forget those of you that were at Lorella Last season and managed to get some good fishing photos, 4wd and bogs , bird , animal or just photos that you feel should go on our braggers board, please don’t forget to send them through. I will have them printed up and put up for next season.
The” Rosie track” is becoming more popular and easier access every year, This year we had a couple of large Trackmaster caravans make their way out to the fishing camp, right to the launching ramp, setting a new bench mark .The Rosie Track is one of the only places in the Northern Territory gulf where access can be gained right through to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Not just for fishermen. This challenge is great for 4WDrive enthusiasts with its hundreds of kilometres of tracks running off, taking you in to beautiful bird filled swamps, geologically magnificent rock formations and Landscapes, Hot water springs, Salt flats mangroves reefs and beautiful sandy beaches. Nearly 30 kilometres of coastline surrounded by National park and aboriginal land on both sides, Lorella is as pristine as you can get.
Our main camp ground has been undergoing some changes as well. With our nudist camp becoming so popular at Nudie hot springs 20km from the main camp ground and only bush camping , we have decided to extend the main camp ground and set up a separate Naturist camp on the hot water spring further down stream of where the existing camp ground is, for those nudist not wanting to rough it so much. You can just chuck a pair of shorts on or wrap a sarong around you and head down to the bar in the afternoon if you want .
The water slide, wildfire gorge and emerald pools are very popular with the kids, as they are all beautiful and safe swimming. You can also get the key off us and borrow our punt ( dinghy), go out and catch a Barra or some Red Claw, Or go Croc spotting (freshwater) in one of the larger billabongs, not far from the main campground. Some more extensions we have done to the main camp ground is to clear out and establish, on the cold water side, a beautiful large safe swimming hole with canoes, water toys, and rope swing. Soooooo, it looks like if you have kids, you may be here for a while . Oh yes, and kids are free.
This year we built a great new Bar as Lorella is becoming that popular, we needed more room. And to make it better, there is a big 54 inch flat screen TV for the footy, or Home and Away, ( for the girls) J and movie nights. There are Yummy meals, Safari Tents and farm stay Bed and Breakfast accommodation.
Did I mention that if you do not want to see people
Lorella Springs is a one million acre (4000 square Kilometre) property backing
on to the coast. So it is very easy to hide away and be a hermit on a nice
spring or part of the River for a day, a week, or even the whole Dry season.
We had some film crews out at Lorella this year .They got some excellent footage
of what we have out here, so keep your eyes open for the “ All4 Adventure
“ boys and the ”Top of Down Under” crew.
Through the season, some of you may have heard of my accident which almost killed me while building another track out to what we call Monarch Rocks. I am still alive, and love Lorella even more, so come and visit us.
Best Regards to Everyone,
Rhett.
Newsletter Update 26th May 2011
Hi Everyone,
For those that haven't already visited, I am sure that you are all packed and on your way. The earlier that you get here, the better the conditions.
REMEMBER.... LORELLA IS NOT JUST AN OVERNIGHT CARAVAN PARK STOPOVER, BUT A MAJOR, ONE MILLION ACRE, REMOTE, UNSPOILT, WATERFRONT, LONG STAY DESTINATION.
MANY OF OUR VISITORS HAVE BEEN HERE SEVERAL TIMES, AND SOME HAVE BEEN HERE A FEW MONTHS ALREADY THIS YEAR. LORELLA IS A GREAT PLACE AND MANY SAY THE HIGHLIGHT OF THEIR TRAVELS.
The weather here is absolutely perfect. The roads are being upgraded each day, we are opening up new destination all the time, Emerald Springs is crystal clear, and you will catch more fish than you can possibly eat.
( ***smiles*** WARNING ... And when relaxing in the "Magical Hot Spring" of Youth, Healing and Fertility, (at the Homestead ) don't forget to dunk your head occasionaly ... otherwise your body will end up much younger than your face.)
Our new bar has been extended and given more character. We also have a large Satellite TV in our communal area, where you can catch up with the News, Football, Movies and other programs while you are just chilling out with a coldie.
We have a choice of some exquisite meals ... breakfast, lunch and dinner. And visitors are catching hundreds of Redclaw Yabbies and Barramundi from the local billabongs.
The track to the coast on the Gulf of Carpentaria is open, the fish are biting big time, and the Rosie Track to the Rosie Fishing Camp is the best it has ever been. The last group back from the fishing camp were catching lots of Barra, Queenies, and many other species, just off the launching ramp, with even a young girl catching a huge Barra.... The Giant Groper has become so tame that people are hand feeding him. And don't forget the lovely big fat mudcrabs. One visitor caught 30. (Don't forget to share.)
There is a new track to the untouched, unfished, "Billabong X", and further into "Smashed Skull Rocks" where you will find a cave full of Bats and Monarch Butterflies.
The Bird watchers have now added some new species to our bird list, and there are still lots more species for you to discover.
The secluded Nudie Hot Springs Campimg and Barbeque area is green and lush ... and the springs piping hot.
If seclusion is what you are after, there are lots of magnificient places besides the many, many Billabongs for you to do your own thing, perhaps while on the way to the coast, launching ramp or fishing camp.
The Nathan River road has had the Roads People working on it, and when we were on it we never needed to get out of 2 wheel drive. Lots of caravans are coming through from Roper Bar, Borroloola, and Cape Crawford.
Rememeber to always take it easy and it is recommended to give us a call to get the latest info just before you come, and so we can look out for you..
The homestead park grounds are the nicest they have ever been, the fish are biting, the beer is cold and the Springs are hot, so we hope to see you soon.
DON'T FORGET to LOOK at the WEBSITE http://www.LorellaSprings.com.au

Rhett.
Newsletter 8th March 2011
Hello All Adventurers,
Another season is about to open and we hope to see you here this year.
Many of you have been here before and to you we say "Thanks" and "Welcome Again".
As of today's date, the roads are still wet, but we anticipate opening on the 1st of April 2011 ... So start packing those vehicles, tents and vans for one of the most unspoilt destinations in Australia.
LORELLA IS NOT JUST AN OVERNIGHT STOP. MOST PEOPLE AGREE THAT IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THEIR "SEE AUSTRALIA" TRIP. Have a browse through our website, http://www.lorellasprings.com , it will give you an idea of just a fraction of the things to see and do here.
People that know Australia, and have found us a few years ago, have been back over and over again, and each time staying longer. Some are staying for several months as there is so much to see and do here for adventurers of all ages.
For those of you fishermen and passersby, with not enough time to stay for a while, it is worth travelling the extra 29 kilometre and stopping in to check out our LORELLA SPRINGS famous bar, which has just had a upgrade. Have a few beers, grab a feed, get to know some local knowledge on the area and relax in the hot springs for a while to break your journey.
Lorella Springs Wilderness park this year is copping another monster of a wet season, which is wonderful for getting all of the waterways flowing again and replenishing this majestic land.
This type of condition is good for the landscape and all of its wildlife.....Including the legendry BARRA , which are “going off’’.
The big thing that has changed at Lorella this year is ACCESS. The end of last season saw a lot of earth works in progress to improve our road . We now have access out to the coast. Yes, you can now tow an off road caravan or boat and trailer all the way to the ROSIE with ease and gain access to the pristine and untouched gulf. One of the world’s most remote and final frontiers.
I am sure this will interest a lot of you, who usually fish the Limmen or at King ash bay on the Macarthur for long periods of stay. As now there is access to all of Lorella’s untouched and unspoiled coastal waterways and the isolated stretch of gulf between the Limmen and Macarthur.
Travel some 86 km along the Rosie track with your off road van, boat, even a quad bike if you have the room, all of your fishing gear and crab pots. Set up camp and stay, for a week, a month or enjoy the whole dry. With our boat ramp upgrade allowing access to the gulf and all of its fishing opportunities, offering the outback adventure of a life time..
This year we have access into even more beautiful waterways for swimming, fishing, scenery, bird and animal watching. LORELLA SPRINGS being a 1 million acre coastal property (4000 square kilometres) has got something for everyone.
For the bird watchers ( TWEETERS ) Lorella is like a dream. With such a vast variety of birds. Exotic and rare. There are so many variation of landscape and terrain. With countless swamps, waterways, coastal salt flats, wet lands, forest, escarpment, dry and wet country . Every season we have more birds spotted and added to our bird list, which we supply for you to check off.
Jabiru, Bush Bustard, Brolga, Gouldian finch are just a few, with the Yellow Chat found by some very excited ” birdies” last season.
As we said last year, although we have owned Lorella Springs Station for over twenty years, most of this massive country is still untouched and every year we discover new and wonderful things about it.
A few recent items to tell you about are the opening up of previously untouched areas such as Wildfire Gorge, Crystal Springs, Billabong Drive, Flying Fox Swamp, the verrry hot "Nudie Springs", unexplored swamps, lakes and creeks just bubbling teaming bursting with wildlife, and new tracks to different parts of Lorella and the 20 kilometres of Carpentaria Coast that no one has ever driven to before.
We have found is a giant Jabiru nest where the birds return every year to breed and nest. As well as the Sea Eagles Nest, and hundreds of different bird species. This IS a bird lovers paradise.
There are also huge Giant Groper that are indifferent to people at both the fishing camp and at the Rosie River entrance, and most fishermen see them as the Groper try to steal your Queenfish before the sharks and crocodiles do.
Please note that all of Lorella is a Wilderness Retreat Sanctuary, and apart from what is to be eaten that day, everything is "catch and release unharmed". This especially applies to the Giant Groper, all Very Large Fish, Crocs, and even Large Sharks. All Animal and Birdlife are protected and there is a very strict "no shooting " policy.
Because of repeated requests for a secluded "Nude Area" we have opened up our "Nudie Springs". This is about 20 kilometres from the main homestead and camping area, but has it's own thermal spring, and BBQs areas, and just lots to see and do, all within easy bush walking or 4WD distance ... or just come back to the main campground with it's bar with Icy Cold Drinks.
If you are part of any sort of club, bring your club along as we offer substantial discounts to groups, on our already really low prices . We also offer great discounts for those wishing an extended stay. Why not get a season pass here ? It is the remote outback you have been searching for all your life. Come and meet like minded people.
Perhaps you may feel like a break from your "Around Australia roughing it" holiday, then you may like to spend some time in our new Luxury, Roomy, African Safari Style Tents.
And "Bush Bashing" 4 Wheel drivers need not worry that things are too tame for them, there is still one million acres, most of which is still largely unexplored.
So if you are a four wheel driver, then there are hundreds of kilometres of tracks to explore. And if you are really into extreme 4WD driving then we have some challenges that you are going to love.
All the time we are putting in tracks to places that no human being has ever been before. Maybe you may like to help bush bash to new and exciting locations that we have found through Google Earth.
Leave lots of time for your stay at Lorella as there is so much to see and do. Remember, Lorella is one million acres, far bigger that many countries in the world .. and there is lots and lots to entice everyone ... from relaxing in the Magic Healing Thermal Spring with a "Coldie" from the Bar, (under a Billion stars with a Bonfire blazing alongside for that romantic adventure atmosphere) ... to some of the best creeks, rivers, thermal springs, billabongs, coastline, history, fossicking, untouched bushland and all sorts of birdlife, wildlife, fishing, crabbing and exploring in Australia.
Just take some time to go through all of our website http://www.lorellasprings.com.au There are just too many things to list here. Lorella is just great for all ages.
If you think that someone you know would like to learn more about Lorella, please pass this info onto them. OLD NEWSLETTERS
NEWSLETTER UPDATE 6th September 2010
All the time we find more and more amazing
things about Lorella.
The more we explore it, the more we discover and the more we love it.
We have just put in a 4WD track to launch directly at the coast into the Gulf
of Carpentaria and some of the many creeks that abound.
No-one, yes, no-one has ever been to this part of the Australia Coastline
by road before.
The fishing is astounding, the beach is excellent and we could walk up the
creeks picking up mudcrabs.
There were hundreds of sea birds, as well as sea bird nests.
There are many campsites along the way beside picturesque freshwater billabongs
and springs, so be one of the first to experience this part of Australia's
final frontier.
Lots of good news: The Savannah Way, Nathan River road has just been regraded, and the road in general, is good for a bush road.
Off road vans, campervans, and even some just bush prepared highway vans are coming into Lorella.
As usual, we recommend that you slow down and take it easy on the road, as well as check the creeks before crossing them. You will get here faster by going slower.
Also we have just graded our Airstrip and it is now the best it has ever been. ... Maybe fly in to visit us.
A large part of the Rosie Track to the
Fishing camp has been graded, making the trip a lot quicker. Also we have
just "bush graded" the the rest of the track to the Rosie Fishing
Camp. (Bush grading is towing a large tractor tyre behind our Toyota). We
still consider parts of the track EXTREME 4WD and only for experienced 4WD
drivers. More than one spare tyre is recommended and recovery gear.
Only experienced drivers should attempt this 4WD track on their own. Two vehicles
make for a much safer journey.
If you have been on some of the other off road tracks, such as the Cape York
track or the the Birdsville track, then come to the most scenic and adventurous
track in Australia ... The Rosie Track to the fishing camp and the Gulf of
Carpentaria.
Several who come back from the fishing camp reckon the fishing was the best they'd ever done in their life! And the adventure to be remembered forever !
Don't think of Lorella as just an overnight
camping area. If that is all you want then there are several free stopping
places along the Savannah Way.
Think of Lorella as the Ultimate, Australian Last Frontier. A Remote and Magical
Destination. Most people that come say it is the highlight of their around
Australia Trip.
If you can, leave at least a week or two for your stay at Lorella as there
is so much to see and do. A month or two would be better. Remember, we are
ONE MILLION adventurous untouched acres.
You can come for just a daytrip, but once you get here I am sure that you
will want to stay more than a day or two.
Even our Nudie Hot Springs ( Campground 20 km from main homestead campground,
and on the first leg of the Rosie Track ) is also becoming popular with people
staying for several weeks.
We are family owned and operated and I know that you will love Lorella. As
I said before ... Most visitors say it is the highlight of their around Australia
trip. We are Australia's final frontier. SEE IT BEFORE IT IS GONE.
So get your cameras, fishing gear, swimming togs, hiking boots and your relaxing
state of mind ... and come and enjoy some time with us. You won't regret it.
Best Regards
Rhett.
NEWSLETTER 1st February 2010
To all our friends, and friends
that we are yet to meet.
Just a little information to bring you up to date with what is happening at
Lorella Springs. http://www.lorellasprings.com.au
This year we will be opening on the 1st of April. 01/04/2010, so start
preparing now. We can't wait to see you.
This should be the end of the wet season and roads should be passable, temperatures
and humidity down, everything should be green with waterfalls and rivers flowing.
The Billabongs will be full and full of life. We personally think that this
is the best time of the year, as everything is fresh and in it's pristine
wilderness condition. The fish, crabs and redclaw yabbies are just waiting
for someone to catch them, and the animals have not heard a vehicle since
last year and often just ignore you as if you are only another part of the
environment. The Rosie River is boiling with Life.
Although we have owned Lorella Springs Station for over twenty years, most
